What is Erasmus+ Staff Mobility?

Under Erasmus+ Staff Mobility, FSMVU provides full-time academic and administrative personnel with opportunities to carry out short-term teaching or training activities at higher education institutions abroad.

These mobilities aim to enhance professional development, support international cooperation, and strengthen the global visibility of the University.

1. Activity Types

STA – Staff Mobility for Teaching

1.1. Staff Teaching Mobility (STA)

Staff Teaching Mobility enables academic staff to deliver lectures, seminars, or joint academic activities at a programme-country partner institution abroad.

  • The teaching activity must align with the host institution’s academic programme.
  • Staff deliver subject-specific academic content in their area of expertise.
  • The activity contributes to building long-term academic cooperation.
STT – Staff Mobility for Training

1.2. Staff Training Mobility (STT)

Staff Training Mobility supports the professional development of both academic and administrative personnel through training activities abroad.

Eligible training activities include:

  • Job shadowing,
  • Administrative and academic skills training,
  • Workshops or structured training programmes.

Note: Conferences are not eligible under Staff Training Mobility.

2. Duration of the Mobility

In line with Erasmus+ rules, a staff mobility period may last from 2 to 60 days (excluding travel days).

However, FSMVU provides financial grant support for a maximum of 5 working days plus 2 travel days per mobility, even if the physical duration is longer.

2.1. Minimum Teaching / Training Load

Teaching Mobility (STA):

  • Minimum 8 hours of teaching per week (or proportional for shorter mobilities).

Training Mobility (STT):

  • The training programme must correspond to a full-time workload agreed with the host institution.

3. Application and Eligibility

Applications are collected once per year and cover activities to be carried out in the following academic year.

3.1. Who Can Apply?

  • Full-time academic staff (faculty members, instructors, eligible research assistants)
  • Full-time administrative staff

3.2. Inter-institutional Agreement Requirement

  • For STA/STT, a valid Erasmus+ Inter-institutional Agreement with the host institution is generally required.
  • STT may also be conducted at relevant non-HEI organisations (research centres, NGOs, public bodies).

3.3. How to Apply?

Applications must be submitted online via the TURNA Portal: https://turnaportal.ua.gov.tr/

Deadlines, required documents, and details are announced through IPO’s official calls.

4. Selection Criteria

Applications are evaluated based on criteria determined by the Turkish National Agency and FSMVU Senate/Commission decisions.

General criteria include:

  • Relevance to departmental/institutional internationalisation goals,
  • Quality of cooperation with the host institution,
  • Content and feasibility of Teaching/Training Programme,
  • Whether the applicant has previously benefited,
  • Institutional priorities of the project year.

Zero-grant (without funding) and with-grant applications are evaluated together.

5. Grant and Financial Support

Two types of financial support are available:

  • Individual Support (Daily Grant)
  • Travel Support

5.1. Daily Grant

The daily individual grant is determined by the Turkish National Agency based on the cost of living in the host country.

FSMVU grant support is limited to a maximum of 5 working days per mobility, plus 2 additional travel days.

5.2. Travel Grant

Travel support is calculated using the European Commission Distance Calculator, based on the distance between Istanbul and the host city.

Full rules and grant amounts are published in the annual call announcement and the Erasmus+ Programme Guide.

6. Zero-Grant Participation

Staff may participate in Erasmus+ mobility without receiving a grant.

  • Zero-grant applicants must also apply and be evaluated.
  • Academic recognition and institutional procedures are identical to those for grant holders.
