Alia Najihah Binti Ahmad Sabri – Faculty of Islamic Sciences – Jordan

Embarking on an exchange program in Jordan was a life-changing experience that encompassed a diverse range of elements. Who would have thought that my childhood dream would come true? Apart from Turkey, Jordan was also one of my dream destinations to continue my studies. However, due to some obstacles, I could not go there. This year, I intend to try my luck in the Erasmus KA107 Program. After filling out the application on the Erasmus website, I was finally accepted. Before we went there, we need to complete some documents such as plane tickets, approval forms, health insurance, and so on. Thankfully, I have a very kind partner named Melike, a girl from Malatya.

In Jordan, one of the most expensive things is accommodation. We were facing financial difficulties because the scholarship arrived a week after we had already arrived there. To be honest, the amount of money given by Erasmus is not enough considering the high cost of living however, we learn to save money and be more frugal when shopping. At the beginning of our schooling, everything went smoothly with the help of Sir Omar, an officer from the University of Jordan. He assisted us greatly in the registration process and everything else. The educational system in Jordan prioritizes academic excellence and provides students with a solid foundation for their future endeavors. During my exchange program, I had the privilege of studying at a renowned Jordanian university. The curriculum was rigorous, and the professors were highly knowledgeable, offering unique perspectives on various subjects. Moreover, engaging in lively discussions with local students broadened my understanding of global issues and enriched my educational experience, despite experiencing various difficulties due to the Jordanian dialect they spoke.

Having opportunities for lasting friendships

Additionally, here I discovered that there were more Malaysian students. So it didn't take me long to adapt because they provided me with a lot of help. I also shouldn't forget to mention that the Malaysian Embassy in Jordan always invited me to events such as Eid and Talk Programs. They were among the people who treated me like home.

Jordan's breathtaking landscapes captivated my senses. From the vastness of Wadi Rum's desert to the serene beauty of the Dead Sea, each destination offered a unique experience. Exploring the ancient city of Petra, with its intricate rock-cut architecture, was a highlight of my journey. Moreover, the vibrant streets of Amman, with its bustling markets and colorful neighborhoods, provided an authentic glimpse into modern Jordanian life. Not only that, but I also had the opportunity to visit neighboring countries such as Saudi Arabia and Egypt. Apart from that, one of the most rewarding aspects of the exchange program was the opportunity to forge lasting friendships with Jordanian students and fellow international participants. The interactions transcended cultural boundaries, and we shared our unique perspectives, creating a dynamic learning environment.

Furthermore, Jordanian cuisine is a delightful fusion of flavors and aromas. I relished the opportunity to savor traditional dishes such as Mansaf, a delicious lamb and rice dish, and Mezze, an assortment of small appetizers. The warmth with which the locals shared their cuisine made every meal a memorable experience, offering a glimpse into the country's culinary heritage.

Lastly, my exchange program experience in Jordan was a transformative journey that encompassed various facets of the country's politics, education, economy, culture, friendships, places, and food among many others. Jordan's commitment to peace, the excellence of its educational institutions, the vibrancy of its economy, the richness of its cultural heritage, the warmth of its people, the beauty of its landscapes, and the diversity of its attractions make it a truly remarkable destination. I encourage all my friends to participate in this exchange program because it offers numerous opportunities to learn and, most importantly, to enhance our sense of identity.
